Your gift provides fresh food to people in need.

The impact

  • Our Fresh Food Funds program has increased 235% since COVID-19 to feed over 1000 households each week including restaurant workers, COVID-19 patients, elderly families, and school aged children.

  • We provided $10,000 in produce boxes to Durham Public Schools families and local organizations like Food Insight Group (FIG).

  • In North Carolina, 1 in 5 children were food insecure in 2018; this number has increased 130% as of April 2020 because of COVID-19.

  • The pandemic also spotlighted the need of support for our North Carolina family farmers. We developed a new campaign called the Farmer Fund which will offer mini grants to farmers to help with everything from GAP certification expenses, equipment purchases, and continuing education costs. Farmers can apply for the Spring or Fall mini grant cycle to seek support for their endeavors.

Donor Advised Funds

A donor-advised fund, or DAF, is a giving vehicle established at a public charity and allows charitable contributions. With a DAF, you will receive an immediate tax deduction and then recommend grants from the fund over time.

You can support access to fresh food by directing gifts to Farmer Foodshare through your donor-advised fund. Use the DAFDirect widget to the right to select your DAF charity and then the amount you would like to direct to Farmer Foodshare. If your fund is not listed in the widget, simply choose Farmer Foodshare as the charity of choice when directing a donation. If you have questions along the way, please email our Development Director at Development@farmerfoodshare.org.

FRIENDS OF THE FOODSHARE giving circles

Our Friends of the Foodshare Giving Circles is an initiative designed to recognize contributions from our supporters, help them feel even more connected to our work, and allow us to express our sincere gratitude.

If you’ve made a contribution within the last year, you are already a Friend of the Foodshare. Everyone who volunteers their time or makes any sort of financial gift to Farmer Foodshare is a member of our community of supporters, and will continue to receive newsletter updates, Farmer Foodshare goodies, and other types of opportunities for engagement.

Joining or renewing membership in a Giving Circle gives our supporters a chance to connect even more deeply with our mission and cultivate relationships with other supporters who share your passion for creating a more equitable food system. There are two levels of Giving Circles within our Friends of the Foodshare community to acknowledge the generosity and dedication of some of our most committed supporters:

Community Cultivators (giving $250+ annually or volunteering 3x or more):

  • A special membership gift as a token of our appreciation

  • An invitation to our annual reception, where you can meet fellow supporters and hear about the latest developments in our work

  • A personal tour of our Food Hub, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how your contributions are making a difference

Harvest Heroes (giving $1,000+ annually or volunteering 12x or more):

  • All the benefits of the Community Cultivators, plus:

  • Recognition in our annual report (if you wish – we'll confirm first), highlighting your leadership and commitment to our cause

Commitment to Friends of the Foodshare and/or these Giving Circles will be renewed annually, roughly every spring or winter, depending on your most recent gifts, and we will tell you when your renewals are coming up.

We want to recognize all contributions, not just in terms of dollars, but in the deeper connection our community members foster with our work. Through these Giving Circles, we hope to create more opportunities for you to engage with Farmer Foodshare and see firsthand the impact of your generosity. We know you don't give to us for the donor gifts or the credit, it’s just our way of saying “thank you.” Your commitment to our mission and your generosity speak volumes.

Thank you for being such an important part of our community at whatever level of giving or engagement is possible for YOU.
